English child actor, Asa Butterfield is best known for his role in the Holocaust film 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' (2008). He can be seen in the starring role in ‘Nanny McPhee And The Big Bang’ alongside Emma Thompson and Ralph Fiennes.

He first started acting at the age of 7, attending the Young Actors Theatre in Islington. He first secured minor roles in the 2006 television drama 'After Thomas' and the 2007 film 'Son of Rambow'.  In 2008 he also had a guest role playing Donny in ‘Ashes to Ashes’ followed by ‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas’.

He has already been nominated for 2 awards: “Most Promising Newcomer” (The British Independent Film Awards) and “Young British Performer of the Year” (London Critics Circle Film Awards).

He has recently beaten hundreds of children in auditions to land the lead role of the hero in the latest Martin Scorsese film, 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret', starring alongside Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen which begins shooting in May.
