Footloose

Ones To Watch
By Sharon Garfinkel

12/09/2007

If dance-based shows with popular movie songs - and here we're talking about Kenny Loggins and Bonnie Tyler's chart-toppers 'Holding Out For a Hero', 'Let's Hear it for the Boy' and, of course, the title song - are your thing, then head to the Playhouse Theatre where yet another production of  popular '80s teen flick Footloose is being revived.

For those not in the know, the story centres on Ren McCormack (Tommy Sherlock) who finds solace on the dance floors. His parents have separated and he moves with his mother to the small town of Bomant  where, because of religious reasons, dance has been forbidden by the town council. Ren takes it upon himself to change their attitudes and at the same time falls for Minister's (Julian Agnew) rebellious daughter Ariel Moore (Miria Parvin).

The story is not the best in the world, nor is the inconsistent acting in Karen Bruce's production but the music and dancing sure makes up for it.
