THE WORLD MUSIC AWARDS ANNOUNCES TOP HONOURS FOR INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS

The Diamond Award is to be presented to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in his first UK public appearance in 9 years.

Lindsay Lohan hosting with performances by Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Nelly Furtado, Faithless, Chris Brown among major international artists including Katie Melua (UK), Andrea Bocelli (Italy), Bob Sinclair (France), Enya (Ireland), Dima Bilan (Russia), Tokio Hotel (German), Elissa (Lebanon). Guest presenters include Paris Hilton.

Tonight’s awards will gather the world’s best-selling artists as well as performances from the industries biggest and brightest for a star-studded evening.  Voted by the public in the true spirit of world music the winners are as follows:

DIAMOND AWARD Michael Jackson

The World Music Awards will pay tribute to Michael Jackson, a living legend and cultural icon, for his unrivalled contribution to music by honouring him with their prestigious and much coveted Diamond Award. The Diamond Award was created to honour artists who have sold over 100 million albums throughout their career - which for any act is an incredible achievement.  It is an award that is not presented every year because it is only for music royalty, so who better to receive it than the undisputed King of Pop. Past recipients of the Diamond Award include Rod Stewart, Mariah Carey, Bon Jovi and Celine Dion.

The World Music Awards are a reflection of genuine public opinion and are achieved by record sales. Sales figures are reported to the organization by the record companies and the national member groups of the IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industries).

Lindsay Lohan will be hosting the show, hot from her recent success as host of Saturday Night Live on the CBS network. Performing artists include Beyonce, who will be opening the show with a scintillating performance of DeJa Vu.
