Monday 21st May saw the inaugural ceremony of ITV1’s Greatest Britons 2007, which were held at the London Television Studios on London’s South Bank and presented by Kate Thornton. The awards were a celebration of those inhabitants of the United Kingdom who had made a remarkable impact on the world stage in their professional field.
Attendees at the ceremony included: David Beckham OBE; Dame Helen Mirren; The Chancellor Gordon Brown; Extra’s and Ugly Betty Star Ashley Jensen; Sir Bob Geldof; Boris Johnson; Jean Christophe Novelli; Peaches Geldof; Jamelia; Sophie Ellis Bextor; Kelly Osbourne and Myleene Klass.
Jimmy Carr provided a special comedy moment and live music was provided by Natasha Bedingfield.
Commended for their work, were David Beckham OBE, who won the Global Achievement Award, and Dame Helen Mirren, who walked away with the award in the category of Film.
Other winners included Ricky Gervais for TV, Amy Winehouse for Music and Sir Ranulph Fiennes for Sport.
Guy Freeman, ITV’s Controller of Music and Events says: “Greatest Britons 2007 was a fantastic ceremony extolling all that is so great about the United Kingdom. Greatest Britons is set to become an established annual event for ITV and we look forward to honouring the Greatest Britons 2008.”
