Elle Style Awards 2009
The annual ELLE Style Awards in association with H&M was a night to remember as the crème de la crème of the fashion and entertainment worlds came together to celebrate the prestigious ceremony held at Big Sky London.
The film of the year – Slumdog Millionaire saw it’s lead actress, Frieda Pinto, scoop the ‘Best Actress’ award’ while Mickey Rourke’s return to the big screen in The Wrestler earned him the ‘Best Actor’ award, presented to him by Thandie Newton.
Elsewhere in the entertainment categories, Elle Style Awards’ host for the night Alexa Chung picked up the award for ‘Best TV Star’ and Joanna Page was there to collect the ‘Best TV Series’ award, which went to Gavin and Stacey. Following on from the huge success of their latest album ‘Only By The Night’, The Kings of Leon accepted their award for ‘Best Music’ via Video link.
In the fashion categories, one of this year’s most exciting newcomers, Erdem received the coveted ‘Future Fashion Award’ presented to him by Aussie songstress Natalie Imbruglia. Renowned for her unique use of perspex, leather and metal shells, the ever popular collections of Lara Bohinc won her the award for ‘Jewellery Designer’. Meanwhile Christopher Kane was presented with the ‘British Designer’ award by Jade Jagger and Anna Friel took to the stage to celebrate Viktor & Rolf’s success in winning the ‘H&M Style Visionary’ award.
Courtney Love flew in especially from the US to receive the ‘Woman of the Year’ award presented to her by Elle Editor Lorraine Candy. Sienna Miller flew the flag for Britain as she took home one of the biggest awards of the night, ‘ELLE Style Icon’, for her unique, fashion forward style.
Complimenting the contemporary, cool decor of this year’s awards, ELLE invited one of the UK’s most talked about up-and-coming artists VV Brown to perform. The vivacious ‘Crying Blood’ singer wowed the guests with her modern soul sounds and quirky fashion sense. She follows Roisin Murphy who performed last year.
This year’s ‘Outstanding Acheivement Award’ went to Stephen Jones, presented by Jasmine Guinness and Jade Parfitt. The milliner who is widely celebrated as one of the best in the world, brings an original artistic flare to all of his designs which has gained him a huge following from fashionistas internationally.
This year’s awards brought an A-list of guests including Alexandra Burke, Erin O’Connor, Roisin Murphy, Emilia Fox, Lisa Snowdon, Naomie Harris, Ian Rankin, Pete Doherty, David Walliams and Yasmin Le Bon, who partied into the night.
