This year's Inside Soap Awards ceremony was held at Sketch in London's West End on the 28th September 2009.
EastEnders won the top prize of the night for Best Soap sponsored by Littlewoods, which was accompanied by victories for Best Actress, awarded to Lacey Turner (Stacey Slater) for the fourth consecutive year, and Sexiest Male, awarded to John Partridge, who plays Christian Clarke. EastEnders earned the reputation as the home of both the bad boy and girl this year, with Larry Lamb scooping the award for Best Bad Boy as Archie Mitchell and Charlie Brooks winning the award for Best Bitch for her portrayal of scheming Janine Butcher. Archie’s torment and Danielle’s death won EastEnders the award for Best Storyline, and the immaculate Kara Tointon (Dawn Swann) earned herself the tile of Best-Dressed Soap Star sponsored by Littlewoods.
Not to be outdone by their London rivals, Coronation Street celebrated when Gray O’Brien picked up the top accolade for Best Actor for his role as calculating Tony Gordon. The gorgeous Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) was crowned Sexiest Female sponsored by Littlewoods, beating off two-times previous winner Kara Tointon. Craig Gazey picked up the Best Newcomer award for his role as Graeme Proctor, and Maggie Jones was awarded Funniest Performance for her portrayal of Blanche Hunt. Corrie also produced the evening’s youngest award winner, Alex Bain (Simon Barlow), whose year in the soap saw him crowned Best Young Actor.
Hollyoaks produced the winners of this year’s new Best Family award, sponsored by Littlewoods. This honour was bestowed on The McQueens.
Loved by the readers of Inside Soap, The Bill was awarded Best Drama for an impressive fourth year running.
