TVQuick & TVChoice Awards 2008

This year’s TVQuick & TVChoice Awards – the 12th – will again be raising money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.  And Ben Miller, known for The Armstrong And Miller Show and Primeval, will take centre stage to see 15 awards handed over to the nation’s favourite people and programmes.

As ever, there are going to be some fiercely contested categories. In the Best New Drama Series category Ashes To Ashes proved a worthy follow-up to Life On Mars, and talking of living in the past, you can’t write off the bonneted bunch from Cranford.

ITV brought us gripping period drama with He Kills Coppers, but will the smart money go on the smash hit Heroes?

Seasoned favourites such as Casualty, Foyle’s War and Midsomer Murders will attempt to beat the ever-popular Doctor Who to the Best Loved Drama prize. And this year they will be joined in this epic battle by international hits like ER, House and Lost.

It’s been a cracking year for comedy. Gavin and Stacey’s been the cult hit of the year. And while the likes of Benidorm and Peep Show must be in with a chance, you can’t dismiss last year’s surprise winner My Family, which defeated the front-runners The Catherine Tate Show and Extras.

Last year saw the introduction of a new category – Best Talent Show.  It was won by The X Factor. But we all know Strictly Come Dancing is itching to get its hands on a gong. And ITV’s smash hit Britain’s Got Talent has got to be a strong contender.

But let’s not forget the soaps, which keep us entertained week in, week out. In the last 12 months EastEnders has brought us the aftermath of Max and Stacey’s affair, while Emmerdale screened the heartbreaking scenes of Ashley and Laurel’s cot death misery. Meanwhile in Coronation Street, David Platt has been running amok on the cobbles!

You’ll have to wait till 8 September to learn the identity of the winners. So make a date to join Ben Miller and TVQuick & TVChoice, for the hottest ticket in town.
