MTV EUROPE MUSIC AWARDS 2008

The 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards show was broadcast live from the Liverpool Echo Arena, on Thursday 6th November. The sponsors for this year’s Awards were Virgin Trains, EDC by Esprit, Sony Ericsson and Dell.

On Monday 8th September 2008, MTV Networks International revealed nominees for New UK & Ireland Acts for this year’s 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. London girls Adele and Leona Lewis alongside Welsh-born Duffy battle it out with Salford’s Ting Tings and The Wombats from Liverpool for the ‘New UK & Ireland Act’ award.

The 11 categories celebrate the great and the good of the international music scene, but this year the categories also honour new and upcoming artists.

This year viewers were asked to nominate their favourite performers on the MTV Europe Music Awards website at www.mtvema.com which was launched on Tuesday 26th August. As well as the opportunity to vote, the MTV Europe Music Awards website also offered people comprehensive background information on the event itself, video materials, gaming and downloads to deepen the users experience of this year’s event.
