NEW 9 X 60 MINUTE DRAMA SERIES
CREATED BY
BRYAN ELSLEY & JAMIE BRITTAIN
Transmitted Thursdays at 10pm, E4 from Thursday 25th January 2007
A brand new drama series from the makers of Shameless – Skins – follows the lives and loves of a group of raucous friends in Bristol.
Starring Nicholas Hoult (About a Boy, The Weather Man), Skins combines the writing talents of Simon Amstell (Never Mind the Buzzcocks), Josie Long (Best newcomer 2006, Edinburgh Comedy Festival), The Dawson Brothers (Balls of Steel, Dirty Tricks), Jack Thorne (Shameless), and 20-something newcomers, Ben Schiffer and Jamie Brittain, with creator and executive producer Bryan Elsley (The Young Person’s Guide To Becoming a Rock Star, 40, The Crow Road).
Each weekly episode is a mixture of humorous, heartbreaking and sometimes shocking stories about a group of troublesome 17 year olds. All of them sunny, optimistic kids who get high, get drunk, get laid and get up for their A levels, all the while pushing boundaries and managing their parents like only teenagers can. These kids really grab life by the balls and then give it a twirl.
Head of E4, Danny Cohen says: “Skins is E4's first wholly original, standalone drama. It's also got one of the most innovative and youthful writing models I've seen in British drama. I'm thrilled with the results. It's original, authentic, funny and hugely enjoyable.”
Francis Hopkinson, senior commissioning editor for drama says: “In Skins, Bryan Elsley and the team have created a series that’s as complex and as emotionally rich as any other drama on television. The young cast are outstanding and give funny and warm performances. The series is new territory for E4 and exactly what we aspire to in drama output.”
Skins is made by Company Pictures for E4. Executive produced by Bryan Elsley, Charlie Pattinson and George Faber. Produced by Chris Clough and directed by Paul Gay, Adam Smith and Minkie Spiro.
