The 100 Worst Britons

Saturday 10th May 2003

Prime Minister Tony Blair has been voted the nation's most disliked person after heading a poll of the worst living Britons.

More than 100,000 people voted on a shortlist compiled for Channel 4's 100 Worst Britons TV programme screened on Saturday 10th May 2003.

Larger than life glamour model Jordan was named the country's second most unpopular person. We wonder if Jordan's 'bosom buddy' Alicia Douvall will make the list next year?

Churchill, Brunel, Lennon - we all know about the Great Britons. But what about the not-so-great ones?  Presented by comedian Jimmy Carr, 100 Worst Britons revealed the 100 Britons everyone just loves to hate in a deliciously mischievous special that counted down the country's most irksome household names from 100 to 1, as voted by the public.

The rules dictated that the Worst Briton must be British and alive and not currently in prison or pending trial.

Votes were cast online at www.channel4.com/100worst earlier this year. The public could either choose from a list of suggested candidates or make their own nomination.

Celebrities let slip what they really think of each other, while nominees reveal what it's like to know that the country has voted them alongside the likes of Geri Halliwell, Jim Davidson, Anne Robinson and Peter Stringfellow in the ultimate poll of the most irritating and infuriating people in Britain today.  Below is a taster of who says what about whom?.

Christine Hamilton on Tara Palmer-Tomkinson:
"She was born with quite a lot going for her and she's screwed up quite a lot along the way and I think people find that irritating. She's a bit of a flibberty-jibbert."

Rik Waller on Simon Cowell:
"I do believe that his world is about to come crashing down around him very soon.  At least I hope so, I hate him."

Claire Rayner on Prince Charles:
"Poor, pathetic creature isn't he? A man in his fifties who still calls his mother 'mummy'?"

Uri Geller on Martin Bashir (who he introduced to Michael Jackson):
"Let me begin by saying this and let your imagination flow.  I don't ever want to see Martin Bashir's face again."

Bernard Manning on Ainsley Harriott:
" A fella cooking - it's not f****** natural! You wouldn't see me with a f****** apron on in the f****** kitchen, or pushing a f****** trolley round Asda - it doesn't happen."

Will Self on Frank Skinner:
"I have to say that Frank Skinner has never, ever, ever made me laugh - ever!  He's just never, ever, ever, ever, made me laugh.  The amount of money he has earned for not making me laugh is staggering!"

Tara Palmer-Tomkinson on The Hamiltons:
"I think that there's something quite tragic about the Hamiltons actually.  I believe you can have a lot taken from you in life, but I believe you can always maintain your dignity and.....they did lose all their money ......unfortunately, in my opinion, they did let all their dignity go with their money."
