EMMA "FREE ME" : MAY 26th 2003
After a couple of years in the wilderness next week sees Emma Bunton returning to the British music scene in a major with her new single ‘FREE ME‘. With its orchestral backing and sweeping melodies ‘FREE ME‘ sounds reminiscent of some of the great James Bond themes of past and is sure to secure a credible position in next Sunday‘s chart.
She‘s been working out in the lead up to her comeback single and we at Celebrities Worldwide think she looks better than ever! Appearing on last nights Channel 4 TV show ‘V Graham Norton‘ Emma looked positively radiant and has aged wonderfully in the transition from Baby Spice (Girl) to beautiful young woman.
Emma has recently been linked with Justin Timberlake, the hottest name of the moment. She was fairly coy on the Norton show about the extent of her "friendship" with Justin, but whatever she has or has not been doing in her social life, she looks great on it!
‘FREE ME‘ is released on 26th May 2003. With its fresh and confident sound, it is sure to change all preconceptions and allow Emma to demonstrate her matured writing and vocal ability.
It was co-written with Mike Peden and shows a natural progression from her previous musical output, with both the single and album displaying a sensuous, cosmopolitan and classic feel …. showing a singer who has clearly developed personally, lyrically and musically.
Emma has spent the last year writing and recording for her second solo album due out later this year, working in Spain, Ireland and London.
"I‘ve been really focussed on writing music which reflects my own style and feel melodically and also that means something to me personally. The more you genuinely love a song, the more passion you have for it and the better you perform it. There‘s something sexy about FREE ME without it being too overt, it‘s romantic but not gushy and it‘s got a classic feel to it which I love. The video is perfect and totally fits with the track - I‘m really proud of it," says Emma.
The video for the new single compliments the song‘s cinematic feel. Filmed in Rio with director Tim Royes (Elton John, Holly Valance, Will Young) it features amazing panoramic scenes reflecting the beauty of the city and truly captures the reflective but contemporary mood of ‘FREE ME‘. Emma‘s co-star for the video is rising Latino star Alexandre Germano and together they indulge in heady romance, marking a change in Emma, whose more vulnerable, younger days seem to have been replaced with self assurance and confidence.
Emma‘s first solo appearance was a guest vocal on the Tin Tin Out cover of the Edie Brickell tune ‘What I Am‘ which reached number 2 in November 1999. Her debut solo album ‘A Girl Like Me‘ followed in April 2001, going Gold, and spawned 4 hit singles including the number 1 ‘What Took You So Long‘.
The new single and album see Emma back working with Simon Fuller‘s 19 Entertainment, from where she was launched into our consciousness in the biggest girl band in the world.
Emma says; "Simon and I have always stayed in touch. It felt very natural for us to work together again. 19 work with some of the best songwriters and producers around and across all elements of the entertainment industry. Whilst I‘m very focussed on my music at the moment, the environment I‘m in means that I‘m challenged and learning more than ever, plus there are opportunities to develop all sorts of new ideas."
