EMMA SPELLAR CROWNED MISS GREAT BRITAIN 2004

22-year-old Emma Spellar from Norwich is Miss Great Britain 2004 and has dedicated the achievement to her late great aunt, a former Miss Great Britain finalist some decades ago.

Emma, a part-time beautician and model beat the other 11 finalists to take the crown at a celebrity-attended event at Café de Paris last night.  In 2nd place was Abbey Saunders from Tamworth, and 3rd place went to Daniella Allfree of Chesterfield.

Last minute votes came flooding in as lines closed at 8PM last night. All 12 finalists took to the stage and shared their experiences over the last week with the audience. Guests included families, friends of the girls as well as celebrity supporters; former Miss Great Britain Leilani, Simon from Blue, Lucy Clarkson, Dane Bowers, boy band Phixx, Dean Gaffney, and heavyweight boxer Roman Greenberg among many others.

Stunning Emma now goes on to represent Great Britain in the ‘Model of the World‘ competition held in China later this year.  She also takes home prizes worth around £50,000 including a 5* holiday to Cuba, and a contract with a professional profile agency and free business advice for the next year.

Miss Great Britain is the original UK beauty contest and for the first time in its‘ history the public were responsible for crowning Miss Great Britain, by text voting. In fact, a whole new format was introduced this year.  A panel of celebrities and media experts selected 12 finalists at a pageant style ceremony on Sunday, 20th June. The 12 were immediately whisked to a London hotel for the week and embarked on a publicity whirlwind of photoshoots, interviews, film premieres, and celebrity parties in a bid to win public support.

The winner was decided entirely by text votes, which exceeded 10,000 and came in from around the country.  The competition was very close, with all girls receiving lots of regional press and media to drive their votes.

A spokesperson for Miss Great Britain 2004 says:

‘All 12 finalists are winners and take away with them a great experience.  They‘ve shown fantastic camaraderie, aptitude and all have the potential to be successful in whatever they choose to do. In fact many have already been offered contracts, photoshoots and radio presenter work. The public vote that followed the celebrity judging has put a lot of confidence back in to one of our great events. The role of the Internet and mobiles within this event has been significant in raising the profile of the 12 finalists. The new format has been a great success and we‘re now working on next years event with a goal to get Miss Great Britain back on TV."
