Company Magazine's Coolest Women Under 30

Company Magazine's Coolest Women Under 30

15 December 2008Company magazine has released its 2008 list of the Coolest Women in Britain Under 30 - and there’s not a Sienna, Peaches or Keira in sight.

British model, Lily Cole, tops the list of the nation’s 20 most inspirational young women, whose personality, individuality and unique sense of style has earned them the ultimate accolade in the art of being cool.

Other cool UK women to make the grade include, Adele, Cheryl Cole, Fearne Cotton, Emily Blunt, Pixie Geldof (but not Peaches), Emma Watson and Zara Phillips.

A panel of seven judges, including Company Editor Victoria White, compiled the list and described Lily (20) as a ‘Unanimous winner!  Not just stylish, Lily is an uber-successful model and actress too.  Plus she’s now studying social and political sciences at Cambridge University, Brains, beauty and a great career – now that’s cool. “

Company Editor Victoria White says: “Being cool isn’t just about having the trendy clothes, the great job and the fabulous friends. It’s also about what you do with your life, the achievements you make.  Everyone in our top 20 list has done something incredible with their lives whether it’s combining a modelling career with university studies, or transforming a hobby into a luxury range.  Company is proud to celebrate these fantastic, and cool, achievers of 2008!”

The Winner - Lily Cole, 20

Not just stylish, Lily is an uber-successful model and actress, too.  Plus, she’s now studying social and political sciences at Cambridge University.  Brains, beauty and a great career-now that’s cool.

Victoria says: “She’s an inspiration in the sense that she proves it’s never too late to have a go at something”

Daisy Lowe, 19

She’s the daughter of Pearl Lowe and Gavin Rossdale, and a successful model, hitting the catwalk for everyone from Karl Lagerfeld to Vivienne Westwood.

Annie says: “She looks great and she’s not skeletal, which means she’s a positive role model for young girls.

Alesha Dixon, 30

Alesha’s had the comeback to end all comebacks.  Now with presenting jobs and a music career going from strength to strength she was a big favourite with the panel.

Ian says: “Alesha has never been self-pitying about her marriage break-up.  She’s been dignified all along and her own woman, which is very cool.”

Marissa Montgomery, 21

She’s turned her hobby of designing underwear into a luxury range.

Pearl says “Marissa’s achieved so much, so young.  It’s very difficult to build up a business and she’s done it very well, winning awards too.”

Estelle, 28

The Grammy nominated Mobo Winner is mates with Kanye and Wyclef.

George says: “She doesn’t feel processed, and she works hard – after being dropped by her first record label, she came back even better.”

Adele, 20

Adele’s first album, 19, went straight in at number one in Britain.  She’s down-to-earth and is our favourite graduate from the Brit School.

Zoe says: “Powerful voice and a unique sense of fashion.  Having talent makes someone cool and Adele’s got it by the bucket-load.”

Cheryl Cole, 25

Impeccable style; gives much-needed kudos to X Factor.

Amiee says: “WAG, girlband member-on paper, really not cool, but Cheryl has come back from all the stereotyping to be hugely popular.  She’s a beautiful woman, doing brilliantly on The X Factor…”

Agyness Deyn, 25

She’s gone from a Lancashire chip shop to the world’s catwalks at a dizzying pace.

Zoe says: “She’s kept her northern roots, which I love about her.  Agyness is funny and stylish too.”

Jaime Winstone, 23

She’s one of the hottest young Brit actors, and also the stylish other half of Alfie Allen.

Ian says: “She has a great CV–Donkey Punch and Dead Set were both brilliant-and she’s worked hard to get over the stereotyping of having a famous dad.  She also has an incredible sense of style.”

Fearne Cotton, 27

George says: “Everyone likes Fearne.  She’s a girl’s girl, which is why she’s loved.  She has a real interest in music, whether it’s interviewing McFly or The Killers.”

Emily Blunt, 25

Won a golden globe in 2007, and we just love any Brit who breaks Hollywood.

Victoria says: “She was scene stealing in The Devil Wears Prada and when she was dating Michael Buble, she somehow even made him seem cool!

Zara Phillips, 27

Nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2006, plus she dates rugby World Cup winner Mike Tindall.

Vivienne says: “She’s a bit of rebel Royal, with a don’t-care attitude.  Zara’s a brilliant sportswoman and has fun without stepping too far from what’s appropriate for a Royal.”

Miquita Oliver, 24

Her quick-wit bagged her the Popworld job, holding her own against Simon Amstell while-get this-still studying for her GCSE’s.

Amiee says: “She’s brash, outspoken and not afraid to be one of the boys, which I think is pretty cool.

Michele de Swarte, 28

Scouted at Seaworld (of all places). She’s modelled for Burberry, Gucci and more.

Pearl says: “I love her on The Fashion Show – she’s pretty but also a great presenter, putting everyone at ease.”

Pixie Geldof, 18

She’s the less-publicised, infinitely cooler Geldof sister.

Pearl says: “Pixie always looks amazing.  She’s like a poster child for students as, although she’s from money, she usually dresses in stuff from charity shops and the high street.  I don’t know anybody who has a bad word to say about her.”

Kaya Scodelario, 16

Plays Effy in Skins, she’s also got a sci-fi thriller out in 2009- all the cool kids go sci-fi.

Ian says: “Clearly I’m biased as I work with her on Skins, but she is such a grounded and together girl, a brilliant actress, and still so young.”

Mairhead Nash, 26

One half of London’s hottest DJ duo, (Queens of Noize).

Victoria says: “DJed at Kate Moss’s birthday, has written in NME and is loved by the London indie scene.”

Emma Watson, 18

Two words: Johnny Borrell.  If that’s not enough, she’s also got a pretty hot acting CV.

Victoria says: “Yes, OK, so she started out as that annoying girl in Harry Potter, but she really has an amazing amount of elegance at such a young age.  She’s even going to be the new face of Chanel. Definitely one to watch.”

Alice Dellal, 21

The Jerry Hall of our time, she’s already graced the cover of Paris Vogue.

George says: “I love her undercut do! It was copied at lots of shows, but without actually cutting, because other models would probably be afraid to do it.”

Alexa Chung, 25

From model to T4 presenter with rock star boyfriend.

Victoria says: “There’s something undeniably cool about her ability to throw outfits together.  Every girl would like to be able to wear something from Gap with a Mulberry bag and look as good as her.”
