LONDON - GET READY FOR THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE!
Jacobsen Entertainment and Karl Sydow in association with Lions Gate Films and Eleanor Bergstein are delighted to present the UK Premiere of 'Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage' written by Eleanor Bergstein, the script writer and co-producer of the phenomenally successful movie Dirty Dancing.
The magnificent stage production, 'Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage', will open at London’s Aldwych Theatre on 24 October 2006. The show will see all the much-loved characters from the iconic 1987 film, tantalising dance sequences and all the hits from the unforgettable soundtrack that made the film an all time classic such as ‘Do You Love Me?’, ‘Hungry Eyes’ and Academy Award Winning ‘Time Of My Life’
'Dirty Dancing' is a phenomenon. It tells the tale of a coming of age love story between the talented and headstrong dancer Johnny Castle and Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman. During her family’s summer holiday at the popular resort of Kellerman’s, Baby, a doctor’s daughter with dreams of joining the Peace Corps, meets Johnny, the guy from the wrong side of town. Against all the odds, they overcome many obstacles and dramas to fall in love - learning some life changing lessons along the way. 'Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage', charts the highs and lows of their summer romance.
The original story of 'Dirty Dancing' has been especially re-written for the stage and includes all the magical moments from the movie as well as more Johnny and Baby scenes. Set alongside all the film’s favourite hits, including the smash hit ‘Hungry Eyes’ to the Academy Award winning, ‘Time of My Life’, the spectacular production will also feature visually stunning, passionate and energetic dance routines with soaring live vocal arrangements.
'Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage' opened last year in Australia to rave reviews. It continues to be a huge success today, breaking box office records and showing to sell-out audiences around the country.
Producer Kevin Jacobsen commented: “Eleanor’s story is a gift to the theatre world, it feels like its home should have always been on stage. The music, the dancing and the cast ensure that our audiences are always on their feet at the close of the show.”
Writer and Creator, Eleanor Bergstein said: “I started writing the movie with the sixties music already in mind. I picked each song and wrote the lines of dialogue against lines of lyric and melody. It was the time of one’s life when one couldn’t separate a conversation from the music playing on the radio. When you couldn’t separate the lyrics of the song from the words you were saying, or the beat of the music from the beat of your heart.”
Tickets, priced from £25-£59.50, are available from the Aldwych Theatre Box Office on 0870 400 0845 or at www.dirtydancinglondon.com.
Performance times are Mondays – Thursdays at 7.45pm, Fridays at 5.15pm & 8.30pm and Saturdays at 3pm & 7.45pm.
