CLASSIC CURVES IN CANNES!
MTV CANNES FILM FESTIVAL PARTY 2006 TO RETURN TO THE CURVACEOUS COOL OF PIERRE CARDIN’s PALAIS BULLES
Cannes/London 2 May 2006: Making a spectacular return to the most decadent venue on the Cote d'Azur, Pierre Cardin’s Palais Bulles (Bubble Palace), MTV is once again set to throw the most exclusive party in the Cannes calendar at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
On 20 May the crème of the world’s movie and music glitterati will be invited to party in Pierre Cardin’s private villa, which boasts some of the most stunning and dramatic views across the Cote d’Azur - the perfect setting for the hippest party in Cannes. Set on the cliff tops in Théoule-Sur-Mer, Palais Bulles is an incredible labyrinth of interconnected bubble shaped rooms and sinuous marble corridors that weave throughout the house leading to secret pools, curved passageways and secluded seating areas.
Taking its lead from the extravagant 60’s design of the villa itself, this exclusive party will pay homage to a chi chi, style obsessed, ethos. Think conceptual art, love of “the perfect circle” culminating in a fusion of curvaceous chic, of revolving lounges, bubble beds, globe lights, dots dots dots, spiraled carpets, free floating spheres, donut bars, oil wheels and blow up couture.
Gareth Pugh, London’s hottest new fashion designer (as seen in this May’s British Vogue), is also set to showcase his infamous runway creations - gobstopper woman, red leather mirror ball woman, blow up ball dress woman and black bunny girl - at the party, as well as designing the look and make-up for all the working staff at this creative explosion. He has shown at London Fashion Week as part of Fashion East and has recently been awarded New Generation sponsorship to show in Autumn/Winter 2006. Pugh has collaborated with magazines including Self Service, CENT, i-D and Dazed & Confused and in 2004, Pugh’s ‘inflatable creatable’ installation was chosen as the sculptural centrepiece for a Dazed & Confused exhibition showcasing designers including Stella McCartney, D&G and Hussein Chalayan. Pugh also worked alongside William Baker on Kylie Minogue’s Showgirl tour, designing exclusive outfits for the singer herself and some of her male dancers. Pugh also regularly works with Judy Blame, who designs exclusive jewellery pieces to accompany his collections.
In addition, MTV’s now legendary casino will take pride of place in the hidden circular undercroft of the Palais and will be exclusively hosted by one of the world’s most legendary professional poker players - Dave THE DEVILFISH Ulliott. Guests will be given the chance to gamble their millions away in true film star style, with the highest chip holders of the night being given the chance to pit their wits against the Devilfish himself when he challenges them to a private poker game and the chance to win a sensational prize.
The exotic location will provide the ultimate setting for internationally renowned DJ duo The Nextmen who are widely regarded the globe over as the two most indispensable ingredients for a blazing party. Having worked with the likes of Groove Armada, Public Enemy, Blackalicious, The Pharcyde and Morcheeba, The Nextmen (aka Brad Baloo and Dom Search) are set to deliver a blistering set of their trademark funky beats and basslines that will keep the aristocracy of the movie world on the dance floor all night long.
Brazilian-influenced collective Favela Chic will also be bringing their unique vibe to the party mix as the Paris-based collective head south to the Cote d’Azur with their energetic mix of all things Brazilian. From samba to hip-hop and from house to drum n bass they are sure to set the dance floor ablaze!
Also flying in especially for the unique MTV bash will be Tru Thoughts and Zebra Traffic label boss, DJ and producer Rob Luis who will be bringing his own diverse and eclectic brand of soul/jazz/hip-hop fusion to MTV’s legendary party. Tru Thoughts protégé Dj Flevans will also be introducing the Cannes crowd to his own infectious mix of funk and party breaks, whilst the fashionably retro but raw edged sound of up and coming London band Lazenby will complete the eclectic line-up of music maestros who are set to infuse the night with the perfect blend of music to keep the party going well into the early hours.
Without a doubt the night is set to be as evocative as it will be glamorous, and as chic as it will be cheeky (the DJ and dance instructor in the toilets will have to be seen to be believed!) making the MTV party the hottest ticket in town!
