The Raconteurs
Sway, Clor, The Upper Room plus more added to O2 Wireless Festival line-up
The opening day of the O2 Wireless Festival in Hyde Park on 21st June already boasts a stunning line up and a headline performance by The Strokes, but it just keeps getting better! The Raconteurs have chosen the O2 Wireless Festival to make their much-anticipated UK festival debut this summer.
The Raconteurs are undoubtedly one of the hottest bands on the block at the moment. Fronted by White Stripes lead singer Jack White and his close friend and established solo artist Brendan Benson, the US foursome are taking the UK by storm as they prepare to release their first single ‘Steady as She Goes’ from debut album ‘Broken Boy Soldiers.’
The Raconteurs are a welcome addition to the opening day of the festival, which also sees performances by Belle & Sebastian, Super Furry Animals, Dirty Pretty Things, Gogol Bordello, The Like and headliners The Strokes.
O2 Wireless Festival aims to bring together the best established bands together with upcoming talent. Other new additions to the ever expanding line up include Nizlopi, John Cale, Clor, Sway, Midlake, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, The 88, The Dears, The Answer, Guillemots, Bob Mould, Micah P Hinson, Midlake, Paolo Nutini and Gang of Four. New band The Upper Room will also feature at both the London and Leeds festivals.
The O2 Wireless Festival 2006 will be the ultimate outdoor live music experience, in exceptionally stunning surroundings with acoustic performance space, chill out areas, world food caterers and street theatre - a truly authentic festival experience within a stones throw of home.
With media partners XFM, Galaxy Radio, Radio Aire and Channel 4 broadcasting highlights from the event, the O2 Wireless Festival looks set to be both London and Leeds’ live summer music event of the year.
Stuart Galbraith, Managing Director at Live Nation, says: “We are proud to be returning to Hyde Park this summer for the second year, showcasing emerging up and coming talent, alongside musical legends and established bands. As a result of our incredible launch in London in 2005, we are able to take the Festival to Leeds this year – an equally thriving and diverse city with a thirst for live music, making the O2 Wireless Festival even more accessible for live music lovers nationwide.”
Paul Samuels, Head of Sponsorship at O2 UK, says: “O2 is proud to be presenting up-and-coming band The Upper Room at both festival venues this summer. Since the beginning of the year we have been working with the band to preview their music via O2 Active, creating a grass roots mobile community that will support the band as they grow. We offer fans news and information on The Upper Room, previews of their tracks and even the chance to have their input into their album cover. As with all the bands in the lineup, O2’s involvement with the Wireless Festival allows us to place their music in the hands of our customers, whether it’s streaming live audio clips to their handsets or offering exclusive access to festival tickets.”
This year O2 is signaling a new era to festival ticketing by teaming up with Mobiqa to develop a mobile ticketing solution for O2 Wireless 2006. All O2 customers can opt for their tickets to be sent direct to their mobile, providing a more environmentally-friendly solution to traditional paper tickets which can easily be lost or damaged.
At the festival, O2 customers will be able to enjoy their own private stage in the exclusive O2 Blue Space, where up and coming talent will showcase their music direct to fans. Customers will also have access to special privileges that will add to their day such as advance ticket sales, multi-purchase discounts and free entry to the exclusive O2 Blue Space, where guests can put up their festival feet and relax with free drinks or a refreshing spa.
