26th Cambridge Film Festival

6-16th July 2006, Cambridge Arts Picturehouse

Cambridge Film Festival

“If it keeps growing at this rate, this festival may one day reach world domination…a pretty impressive and packed line up!” The Guardian 2/7/05.

“Cambridge has the knack of attracting big names – to the irritation of its large rivals,” The Times 30/6/05.

The UK’s sunniest film event, the Cambridge Film Festival returns to the Cambridge Arts Picturehouse and Cambridge Cineworld, for eleven days (6th -16th July) of UK Premieres, international guests, major retrospectives, shorts and documentaries, and free outdoor screenings.

Highlights for 2006
Full programme details will be announced shortly but the following are planned for this year: the first major retrospective for Bruce Weber’s work in film, 'A Brief History of Erotic Cinema' curated by Rowan Pelling (former Editor of The Erotic Review), a Michel Gondry Retrospective, 'Projecting Britain' (a major programme of Public Information films), 'Made in East Anglia' (a celebration of films from Screen East), New German Cinema, daily free Artists Film and Video screenings, PLUS the fully restored 'The Open Road' (by Claude Friese-Greene), with live piano accompaniment by Neil Brand and Gunther Buchwald.

Says Festival Director Tony Jones: “ The 26th Cambridge Film Festival will showcase the finest international independent cinema - from the briefest short film to the grandest big screen epic. Last year’s sell-out 25th anniversary event is going to be a hard act to follow but this summer we’re determined to pull out all the stops and present another dynamic, imaginative and impressive line-up of UK Premieres and star guests, the likes of which have stamped Cambridge firmly as one of the most prestigious UK Film Festivals”.
