Newbury Comedy Festival

Newbury Comedy Festival

Saturday 8th – Saturday 15th July 2006

Newbury Comedy Festival is proud to announce some of the highlights of this year’s festival.  The official programme launch will take place at The Corn Exchange, Newbury on Thursday 27th April at 7.45pm and will feature a number of the acts appearing at the festival including Sue Perkins.

The comedy festival would like to invite you to attend the launch to discover the finalised programme. There will be interview opportunities with comedians performing at the launch as well as sponsors and festival director Martin Sutherland.

Some of the highlights of the festival are as follows: Living legend EMO PHILIPS, will return to the UK, for the first time in five years, exclusively to perform as part of the Newbury Comedy Festival.  Emo started over five thousand shows ago back in 1976 and he is considered by many to be one of the best joke writers in America.  In a poll commissioned by GQ magazine, three of his jokes were judged to be among the top seventy-five of all time.

Britain’s favourite and TV host extraordinaire JIMMY CARR returns for his second year at Newbury Comedy Festival and British comedy institution BARRY CRYER will also be appearing.  Plus, for the first time and just confirmed, is an appearance from the outrageous TV presenter and comic RUSSELL BRAND with his new show.

There is also a strong line up of the very best new talent at the festival, including last year’s Perrier Winner LAURA SOLON, 2004’s Perrier Newcomer Winner, WIL HODGSON, Newcomer nominee NATALIE HAYNES as well as the Friday Night Project’s (Channel 4) ALAN CARR and perennial favourites SUE PERKINS, GINA YASHERE, and WILL SMITH

Comedy in a more theatrical setting is represented by TETE A TETE with their new opera, PUSH, BLIND SUMMIT with their puppet cabaret, LOW LIFE and Manchester based sketch comedy from SLAUGHTERHOUSE LIVE who were winners of the Brighton Comedy Festival Best Show Prize.

Making his debut at Newbury this year will be art critic BRIAN SEWELL.  Famously outspoken and uncompromising in his opinion on issues close to his heart, this will surely be an unforgettable and hugely entertaining evening.

The Newbury Comedy Festival is sponsored by Vodafone.
