Laura Solon exploded into public consciousness at the 2005 Edinburgh Fringe with her sensational debut show, Kopfrapers Syndrome. She played to sell out crowds and received glowing reviews for her writing and performance, and became only the second woman ever to win the Perrier Award. She is now undeniably one of the rising stars of the comedy world.
A subtle, brilliant writer and extremely versatile actress, Laura is able to turn her hand to a diverse range of hilarious characters and voices. Her comedy is dark and distinctive, crammed with acute observations and killer one-liners. Laura has previously appeared in BBC2’s The Sack Race and has written for several television shows, including the new BBC3 sketch show Man Stroke Woman, produced by Ash Atalla at Talkback.
“Laura Solon is a serious talent…Solon’s series of comic monologues proves her to be an amazingly versatile performer and a hugely promising writer…this is an astonishingly assured debut.”
Dominic Maxwell, The Times
“With some of the best lines in a Fringe show Solon has earnt her recognition by the Perrier panel”
Julian Hall, The Independent
“Solon executes each character with laser-guided precision and a lightness of touch. There are inevitable flashes of Victoria Wood and Catherine Tate, but there is gobsmacking originality, too.”
Bruce Dessau, The Evening Standard
“the dark and distinctive skill with which Solon brings this oddball‘s gallery of comic characters to life has made her show one of the sleeper hits of the Fringe…Solon‘s twisted imagination means that the show is jam-packed with delights. Her performance(s) are expertly differentiated, even while each woman proves as demented as the last…there are countless killer one-liners…when you have talents this prodigious, why not flaunt them?”
Brian Logan, The Guardian
“Her sketches are sharp, filler-free and contain great depth-charges of bad taste.”
Ian Shuttleworth, The Financial Times
