These are strange times in music. On the one hand, TV talent show gimps have a hold on the nation. On the other, along comes 23 year old Jamie Cullum, the good-looking and ultra-cool London based singer song-writer who makes jazz with a funky twist.
Plucked from obscurity to join the home of the most revered artists in jazz history, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Diana Krall and Natalie Cole, to name a few. His deal with Universal Music Group is the biggest ever in British jazz - a deal that has six noughts after an un-disclosed digit. Following a bidding war with other majors, this is a deal that quite simply, had to be done. Too many including the press reviewers below this diminutive yet dynamic young man is set to blow the UK charts wide open.
