From the moment an unsuspecting member of the public hails the Cash Cab they step into a surreal gameshow. As soon as they start their journey they will be quizzed on their general knowledge, earning money as they go. They will have questions fired at them, but three mistakes and they will be unceremoniously dumped, wherever they are.
Unlike a normal cab, Cash Cab's meter registers not the passenger's fare but their winnings. The moment the cab pulls away, driven by the Cash Cab Cabbie John Moody, the meter lights up, cameras roll and the questions start.
It starts gently – to begin with there are five questions worth £10. The next five questions are worth £50, and after that every question is worth £100. The longer the journey the greater the reward, as the questions keeps coming. But the longer they are in the cab, the greater the risk they could lose everything. The passenger is not allowed to curtail the journey, no matter how close to their destination. Any hold-up could mean a bigger cash prize, or that the passenger rues the day they stepped into that particular cab….
The cab has visited cities across the UK, London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Every weekday you can follow Cash Cab as it picks up unsuspecting passengers and offers a taxi ride with a difference.
'Cash Cab' is shown on ITV1 weekdays at 3pm.
