Ones To Watch

Prison Break, Channel 5 starting Monday 23rd January 2006 at 10pm

This hot new drama series has recently debuted in the States to record-breaking ratings. Set in Chicago's maximum security prison Fox River, Prison Break stars Golden Globe-nominated Wentworth Miller as structural engineer Michael Scofield, a man in a desperate situation. His brother, petty criminal Lincoln Burrows, has been sentenced to the electric chair for murdering the brother of the Vice President. But Michael believes Lincoln is innocent, and is determine to uncover the shadowy conspiracy that has framed him. As part of his elaborate plan to save his brother's life, he has researched all the major players in the prison, and has hidden everything else he needs to know quite literally up his sleeve.

(PILOT)
A man gets himself sent to prison so he can plan an escape for his brother, a death row inmate who swears he’s
innocent and is being framed.

A tattoo artist puts the finishing touches on a huge tattoo covering most of Michael Scofield's arms and torso. Later, Michael goes home, throws his old files away and tosses his computer's hard drive into the Potomac River. Then he robs a bank, and waits for the police to arrive. A few days later, against the advice of attorney Veronica Donovan, Michael pleads no contest to the robbery and a judge sentences him to Wallens Ridge State Penitentiary. A bit later, Michael is checked into the prison by corrections officer Bellick (who takes an immediate dislike to Michael), and introduced to his cellmate Fernando Sucre. Meanwhile, Veronica can't figure out why Michael didn't fight for his freedom, and her fiancé, Sebastian, gets annoyed that she's so preoccupied with Michael's case. A bit later, during an exercise period, Sucre introduces Michael to the exercise yard and the various convicts who “own” the space. He also identifies certain notable inmates, including 60-year-old Edwin Westmoreland (whom the other inmates believe to be the legendary D. B. Cooper), and Sucre's friend, C-Note. Finally, Michael tells Sucre that he's looking for a guy named Lincoln Burrows, and Sucre points him out in a fenced-off area for death row inmates. Michael asks how he can talk to Lincoln, but Sucre says the only time Lincoln can mix with other inmates is at chapel or Prison Industry (where the inmates make eyeglasses). But Sucre tells Michael that he’ll never get a job in PI, because it's run by gangster John Abruzzi. Finally, C-Note asks why Michael wants to talk to Lincoln…and Michael says Lincoln is his brother.
