‘You Gotta Look The Parts’ - June 5th 2006
2006 has so far been kind to North East trio ‘The Motorettes’. Their limited edition debut single ‘Super Heartbeats’ was championed by the ice cool offerings of XFM (‘Record of the Week’ from both Lucio and John Kennedy) as well as receiving ‘Pick of the Week’ from BBC 6 Music’s ‘Music Week’ programme. Along with more than favourable reviews from NME, The Fly and The Sunday Times, this undoubtedly helped 'Super Heartbeats' to sell out in its first week of release.
A continued string of successful dates the length and breadth of the country, supporting bands as diverse in style as We Are Scientists, The Paddingtons and Orson, show that The Motorettes fall outside the boundaries of sub-sub-genred rock music that clumps together to parallel the latest trends.
Perhaps it’s the seemingly untangle-able undertone of bands like The Ramones and The Beach Boys, or 60s girl groups like The Ronnettes and The Shirelles that make The Motorettes appeal to everyone, bands and public alike. Perhaps it’s just because they’re good fun lads from Tynemouth who play some decent rock and roll. Whatever it is, The Motorettes have begun to establish themselves firmly within the current music scene.
The band, who hail from the seaside town of Tynemouth, unleash their second slice of infectious pop beauty on June 5th with the single ‘You Gotta Look The Parts’ (SKCD86) on the now firmly reactivated Kitchenware label.
Spring/Summer sees The Motorettes continue to hone their trade with live shows throughout the UK.
