Anechoic have managed to marry a focus with something essentially ethereal, something that with each listen reveals a new depth. Having supported Embrace in front of thousands of people already, Anechoic will not be daunted by anything. Ready to grasp the day, ‘This Is How It Is’ shows a band who’ve developed over years, learning their craft, honing their talents until the right time to show the world what they can do.
Its unusual to find a band now willing to break from the sound of the moment. Anechoic have a strong pop sensibility while retaining a boldness inherent in a band that makes them so exciting.
Lyrically, Anechoic illustrate their time before the band started moving, working part-time jobs. The lyrics highlight the band’s ambition, the desire to get going and how their situations at the time coloured this. ‘This Is How It Is’ is about a car crash outside Rob’s house and they had to go outside and put out the fire themselves as the owner ran off. Needless to say, this urged them to want to make it happen.
Anechoic have never been one to follow trends, more to develop their own sound, to expand on what they believe. As Rob explains, ‘We’ve always been about the subtleties that come out over time. There are no rules, we like bands that are capable of the unexpected and that’s what we strive for.’
Anechoic then have a boldness and sense of purpose that can only lead to greater things. Blissed out and beautiful, ‘This Is How It Is’ is the first salvo of a band hungry for more.
Look out Anechoic when they tour the UK around the release of the album.
