Breakdance The Movie and Breakdance 2 Electric Boogaloo

Ones To Watch

Twenty five years after its original release Breakdance The Movie is without a doubt still the original and best breakdance film: a movie inspired by a street movement that went on to spread the craze wider and further than anyone anticipated.

Now, get out your lino, stick on your ghetto blaster and don your cap as Breakdance – and its sequel Breakdance 2 Electric Boogaloo – spin on to DVD courtesy of Second Sight.

The freshest DVDs of 2009 will be released in their full widescreen glory for the first time in the UK on 6 April 2009.

Breakdance was a genuine phenomenon, an independent film that grew out of the nascent hip hop craze that was sweeping across both sides of the Atlantic and went on to bring it to an even wider audience.

Directed by Joel Silburg, Breakdance The Movie sees dance student Kelly (Lucinda Dickey) becoming disillusioned with her dance teachers, and when she meets street dancers Turbo (Adolpho Quinones) and Ozone (Michael Chambers), she realises that breakdancing is where it’s at.

Breakdance 2 – Electric Boogaloo sees Turbo, Ozone and Kelly take on a developer who wants to demolish the local youth centre, so they plan a huge street fundraiser to showcase what they do best – Breakdancing! As well as introducing scores of teens in the US and UK to the dancing, the moves, the music and the clothes that characterised breakdancing, bodypopping and hip hop in general, Breakdance also brought fledgling rapper Ice T to a wider audience for the first time ever.

With a thumping soundtrack including the top 10 hit There’s No Stopping Us by Ollie & Jerry and Rufus and Chaka Khan’s Ain’t Nobody, Breakdance will have you doing windmills, crazy legs and headspins in no time.
