Mister Lonely

Ones To Watch

With a cast of characters that includes Michael Jackson, Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, The Pope, The Queen and Madonna – albeit all of them lookalikes – Mister Lonely is the kind of ambitious film that could only have come from a visionary director such as Harmony Korine.

In only the third feature from the enigmatic American indie director, Mister Lonely sees him drawing in a hugely talented cast for a sweeping tale filmed in France, Scotland and Panama.

Mister Lonely, starring Diego Luna (Y Tu Mama Tambien), Samantha Morton (Control, Morvern Callar), James Fox (Performance) and legendary director Werner Herzog, will be available to buy on DVD courtesy of ICA Films on 8 March 2010.

The film follows a Michael Jackson impersonator (Luna), who meets a Marilyn lookalike (Morton) in Paris. She takes him under her wing and brings him to a community in Scotland, peopled by lookalikes and ruled by the Pope (Fox) and Queen Elizabeth II (Anita Pallenberg, appearing with Fox for the first time since Performance). In a sub-plot, a German priest (Herzog, a fan of Korine’s work) is overseeing relief deliveries in third world conditions, when a nun falls from an airborne plane and miraculously survives…

A hugely talented director, screenwriter and author, Korine’s Mister Lonely follows an eight-year gap from his previous critically acclaimed outings, Gummo and Julien Donkey-Boy and its DVD release comes ahead of his next feature, Trash Humpers. He shot to prominence after penning the script for Larry Clark’s Kids, based partly on his own experiences hanging out with skaters in New York City. He has also written a novel and had other works published.
