Big School

Ones To Watch

BBC One’s newest sit-com Big School is about a ‘dysfunctional staff room, unrequited love and interactive white boards’.

Our favourite British comedians David Walliams (Little Britain, Come Fly With Me) and Catherine Tate (The Catherine Tate Show, Doctor Who, The Office US) (pictured above) star in the show which is set at Greybridge secondary school.

Walliams plays 40-something chemistry teacher Mr Church who has taught at the school for years, whilst Tate play’s the school’s enthusiastic new recruit, Miss Postern, who despite being a French teacher has never actually been to France.

Mr Church is preparing to hand in his notice but changes his mind suddenly when he falls in love at first sight with new arrival Miss Postern.

Philip Glenister (Life On Mars, Mad Dogs) plays the lothario gym teacher Mr Gunn, whilst Frances de la Tour (The History Boys, Harry Potter movies) plays Ms Baron, the no-nonsense, plain-speaking headmistress of Greybridge School.

Joanna Scanlan (The Thick Of It, Little Britain) plays Mrs Klebb, the nosey and interfering drama teacher, while Steve Speirs (Extras, Cemetery Junction) plays Mr Barber, the pessimistic geography teacher who’s counting down the days until he can retire.

Finally, Daniel Rigby (Eric & Ernie, Black Mirror) plays Mr Martin, the mod-like music teacher who desperately wants to be mates with the kids and still clings to his dream of becoming a rock star.

Mark Freeland, BBC Head of In-House Comedy, says: “Led by David Walliams, it's an absolute privilege to work with such a brilliant cast and off-screen production team. Like my Latin GCSE, nothing can go wrong. At least that's what I thought at the time.”

Directed by Tony Dow, who also directed Only Fools And Horses, Big School is set to be a big hit.

The show kicks off on Friday, August 16 at 9pm. Don’t miss it!
