Based on the international bestselling novel by Australian author Markus Zusak, The Book Thief stars Academy Award Winner Geoffrey Rush (The King’s Speech, Pirates of the Caribbean) and Academy Award nominee Emily Watson (Breaking The Waves, War Horse), alongside Sophie Nelisse, Ben Schnetzer and Nico Liersch.
It tells the story of Liesel, an extraordinary and courageous young girl sent to live with a foster family in World War II Germany. With encouragement from her new family and Max, a Jewish refugee they are hiding under the stairs, she learns to read. For Liesel and Max, the power of words and imagination become the only escape from the events happening around them.
