LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!   It was the first-ever National Movie Awards for all those who love great films. From tearjerkers and riotous comedies to gripping dramas and spectacular blockbusters, it’s been a truly remarkable year at the cinema with record-breaking attendances in 2007.

The National Movie Awards was a star-studded ceremony held at London’s newly refurbished Royal Festival Hall on Friday 28th Sept and screened in peak-time the following evening (Sat 29th) on ITV1. All the awards in this glittering event were chosen by the movie-going public in a huge nationwide poll—so it was very much the film-fan’s choice. The big screen’s most successful films and stars were honoured in a night of glitz and glamour, tension and triumph in what is set to become established as one of cinema’s biggest nights of the year.

Host Alexander Armstrong TV actor and comedian presented the event which celebrated cinema’s major successes over the last 12 months.  He has presented Have I Got News For You and has a burgeoning film career having appeared in Woody Allen’s Match Point alongside, Liam Neesom  in Plunkett and Macleane and Nicole Kidman in Birthday Girl.

The National Movie Awards was the first awards show of the season and  included this   summer’s blockbusters going head-to-head in a fight for honours with all the other high-grossing films from the last year.  Categories included Action/ Adventure, Comedy, Family Film as well as Male and Female Performances.

Votes have poured in throughout the summer in a massive paper ballot involving every cinema in the country, as well as online, telephone and text voting.
