TV Quick & TV Choice Awards 2007

Coronation Street reclaimed its Best Soap crown at the 11th annual TVQuick & TVChoice Awards in Aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. ‘The Street’ also walked away with the Best Soap Storyline award (for Charlie’s Death/Tracy’s Revenge), the Best Soap Actress award, presented to the fantastic Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw) and Best Soap Newcomer which went to Kym Ryder (Michelle Connor).

It’s a double celebration again for Doctor Who, sweeping the board for the second year running with David Tennant picking up the Best Actor Award and the series winning the Best Loved Drama category.   It’s the second year David has won this award and the third year in a row that it has been awarded to an actor playing the eponymous Doctor.  Stable mate Torchwood also joins Doctor Who on the winners rostrum, collecting the Best New Drama Series Award.

From humble beginnings as Biker Grove bad boys PJ and Duncan, Ant and Dec proved they’ve still got the magic touch, picking up two awards with I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! walking away with Best Reality TV Show and Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway claiming Best Entertainment Show.

Eastenders celebrated as Charlie Clements (Bradley Branning) was named Best Soap Actor. It’s been a great year for Charlie who only last year’s was presented with TVQuick and TVChoice’s Best Soap Newcomer award.

The lovely Jill Halfpenny won Best Actress for her portrayal of teacher Izzie Redpath in acclaimed BBC drama Waterloo Road. Jill is no stranger to soaps herself, making a name for herself as Coronation Street nurse Rebecca before joining rival soap Eastenders as Kate, an undercover policewoman who fell for bad boy Phil Mitchell, a union that predictably ended in tears.

In its inaugural year, Best Talent Show was awarded to The X Factor. With Strictly Come Dancing, Any Dream Will Do and Dancing On Ice on the shortlist, this was always going to be a tough category to win. However, with Mr. Nasty Simon Cowell at the helm, the unstoppable fame-chasing format couldn’t be beaten.

An honorable mention must go to the Loose Women ladies, the runaway winner of the Best Daytime Show award after urging their fans to vote. Whether they are discussing former husbands or stories in the news, Colleen, Carol and co. don’t hold back, and viewers clearly love them for it.

Winner of the Best Lifestyle Show is the hit series How To Look Good Naked. Parading down a catwalk in your underwear is the last thing most women would want to do, but Gok Wan, the star of the show, gets them doing that week after week - and they love him for it.

Other winners included Desperate Housewives for Best International Show and My Family for Best Comedy Show.

The TVQuick & TVChoice Awards in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer celebrate the very best of British Television and are voted for by readers of TVQuick and TVChoice.
