Red Night by Marrakech

Monday 8th November 2010. London.

Elizabeth Hurley heats up cold London night to promote the magic of Marrakech

Not even a bout of seasonal sniffles and lingering lurgy could deter dazzling Elizabeth Hurley from lighting up a chilly November evening as she arrived at Old Billingsgate in the city of London to promote the magic of Marrakech.

As honorary event ambassador, she defied “aching limbs and a sore throat” and surfaced from her sick bed to wow the crowds in a sexy Roberto Cavalli designer gown as she elegantly hosted an exclusive VIP “Red Night by Marrakech” with Mr. Hamid Addou, Chief Executive of the Moroccan National Tourist office.

Ms. Hurley proudly announced: 'I love Morocco; I shot Samson and Delilah there with Dennis Hopper years ago and have often gone back for holidays. I'm also shooting my next beach campaign there next month. It's a great place to get winter sun if you live in the UK.'

The theme of the glamorous black tie event was “When Marrakech Lights up the Night” as Old Billingsgate was transformed into the exotic Red City for one spectacular evening.

Upon entry, Red Night guests were immediately immersed into the Marrakechie atmosphere, thanks to a spectacular design that evoked the charm and luxury of the great Red City.  The evening showcased all the elements of Marrakech that make it such an unusual and captivating destination, from its atmosphere and music to its fashion and unique colour.

A sparkling red gate greeted Ms. Hurley and her magazine owner friend William Cash and other guests including Lisa Butcher, chef Aldo Zilli, Cherie Lunghi and Upfront Television executive Adrian Tracey and Natalie Dormer cast by Madonna as Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother in a film about the Edward VIII abdication crisis.

Monday’s Moroccan festivities heralded the arrival of three 'RedM Gates' representing the iconic red gates that lead into Medina (the old town) in Marrakech.

The RedM Gates arrived in London ahead of World Travel Market – the leading global event for the travel industry - and were located at the Tower of London (Wharf Gun Park), St Pancras  (by the Eurostar Terminal) and Liverpool Street station (the Falcrum Entrance). As visitors walked inside the symbolic gates, they were given a glimpse of the Red City with a selection of visuals and images of the ancient mystical Moroccan city.

Before arrival in London, the RedM Gates had held court for a few days in New York in September. To mark the campaign there, Academy award winning star Anjelica Huston hosted a similarly stunning night at New York's Skylight Studios where guests included designer Cynthia Rowley, actor Alan Cumming and Carol Kane of "Taxi" fame who wore native Moroccan dress at her table.

During the London event, guests were treated to a Moroccan Fashion Show produced by Albert Oiknine, one of Morocco’s most famous designers and an exclusive Red Night dinner created by Zakia Aît Aboulahcen whose father is a revered chef at the iconic La Mamounia hotel. She is renowned for her authentic Moroccan dishes that add a dash of international inspiration.
