Whilst studying at the acclaimed St Petersburg Conservatory Anna worked as a cleaner. She went from cleaning floors to performing on the stage with the Kirov Opera under the guidance of legendary conductor Valery Gergiev.
After working with the Kirov Opera Anna really hit the international headlines with an exclusive recording contract with Deutsche Grammophon and a sensational Salzburg début in 2002 as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, since when demand for her in the world’s great opera houses has been unrivalled.
Anna is part of a new generation of opera singers who look as good as they sound. Her performance reviews state that she is destined to be as big as the legendary Maria Callas!

Anna has been described as the ‘Audrey Hepburn of Opera’
She was invited to the Kremlin to meet President Putin - which she describes as a huge honour.
She makes her BBC Proms debut on 10 September at The Royal Albert Hall. This performance is being televised by BBC Television.
Anna has become a highly acclaimed opera star selling over 100,000 copies of her debut album. She entered the pop charts in Germany and Austria and topped the DVD charts at #1 in Germany and # 2 in Austria above Beyonce, Robbie Williams and the likes.
Anna Netrebko‘s new album builds on the success of the first CD with arias and scenes from popular Italian operas, first and foremost from La Traviata and Lucia di Lammermoor - roles which Anna Netrebko has already sung to great acclaim in Munich and Los Angeles.
Video clips from her new album will see Anna become the first opera diva for the MTV generation.
Since the Vienna Opera Ball in February 2004, Anna Netrebko has been dressed by ESCADA - which also dresses Jennifer Lopez, Kim Basinger and Andie Macdowell.
Anna Netrebko has also been approached by Rolex for an advertising campaign to be launched this summer in Verbier.
