UPFRONT organised the celebrity guests for the 'Where Did the River Go?' book launch on Saturday 28th July 2007 on the Miyuki Maru River Boat moored at Swan Pier, London Bridge, EC4R 3TN.
Recent research by learndirect, the UK's largest adult learning network has shown that over half a million parents worry that their English isn't up to scratch to read stories to their children and yet storytime is such an important part of family life. To help solve this problem and raise awareness of the issue of numeracy and literacy skills, learndirect has launched a storybook called “Where did the River go?”.
Written by Peter Corey, in conjunction with learndirect, the book will be a fun way to enjoy storytime with kids as well as helping parents to identify whether they have a skills gap. If they do, learndirect is there to help train them and advise on courses. The aim is to get the message out to people that it's never too late to take their English and maths to another level.
The event featured a special Jackanory reading by TV duo Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, face-painting, balloon artistry, a barbecue and a soft play area.
Celebrity attendees included: Gail Porter, Laila Rouass, Alice Beer, Jeff Brazier, Winston McKenzie, Lisa I’Anson, Dr Raj Persaud, Julie & Kevin Phillips.
