Celebrities and leading African dignitries gathered at Flemings Mayfair Hotel on Tuesday (July 5) as international development charity Harvest Help unveiled a new film to marks its 20th anniversary.
Harvest Help, which has pleaded with the Government not to double aid to Africa until it makes sure it is reaching the right people, has produced the film illustrating how it is making poverty history in Zambia and Malawi.
The High Commissioners of Zambia and Malawi, His Excellencies Anderson Chibwa and Ibrahim Milazi were hosting the event.
Celebrities including broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald, shoe designer Jimmy Choo, BBC newsreader Moira Stuart actresses Claire Goose who appears in the BBC's Waking The Dead, Cutting It star Angela Griffin joined other stars including former TV presenter Lisa I‘Anson at the launch at Flemings Mayfair in Half Moon Street.
The new film, called ‘Good Seed On The Ground’, highlights the work of Harvest Help over the past 20 years.
Broadcaster Alison Bell travelled to Zambia and Malawi with a film crew earlier this year and spoke to people who have learnt sustainable farming skills and other forms of earning a living through local organisations funded by Harvest Help.
The 17-minute film features moving accounts from people that have benefited from projects operated by local non-governmental organisations, supported and funded by Harvest Help.
Harvest Help Director Andrew Jowett has urged Tony Blair to ensure aid to Africa is reaching those who need it most before giving more aid cash.
The charity says the only way to secure the future for millions of people facing poverty, starvation and the threat of HIV/AIDS is to work with local non-governmental organisations rather than giving money to Governments.
